Volcanoes are favourite natural villains in blockbuster movies and cartoons, a classic kids’ science project, and headline news when a tourist destination gets a little too close to an imminent eruption. They can also tell us a lot about the history of earth and potentially the history of planets, including Mars. Dr. Rajeev Nair, PhD, is an associate professor in the Department of Geoscience at the University of Calgary. He studies volcanoes and shares some of the good, the bad and the most misunderstood information about them.
